I am a ridiculous human being.

How does this happen?

I swear I closed the lid.

And yet, no. Clearly, I did not.

If I told you how many times this week this one little load of laundry has been washed and forgotten you would throw your hands up at me. (And not in that ” and wave ’em like you just don’t care, yay-we-are-so-happy-we-must-dance way, either. In that “pfft I give up. YOU are hopeless!” way. But I digress …)

I am mad at myself. This is so wasteful!

How can I remember – before I run out of underwear – that there is laundry in the washing machine?

I live a distracted life.

Many of us do.

Once upon a time I had the most beautiful washing machine. It was the coolest colour and it had a buzzer on it that was so loud it could make your heart stop. Man, I loved that thing.

That was what seems like a lifetime ago, now, though. Long ago and far away, when Thing 1 was teeny and I was blonde – because my hair grew out of my head that way, naturally – as opposed to, well.. never mind!

My point is …

Help!

Please tell me I am not alone in my forgetfulness.

*Look! I made a meme. I’m so proud! The lengths I’ll go to for my tens of readers. I mean, really!

  1. We do the same thing all the time. I wish I could count how many times I have walked into our laundry room and realized the cloths I ‘washed’ needed to be washed again because they stay in the washer for a few days and now smell. Actually you just reminded me to check the laundry so thanks!!

    • Oh my goodness! Isn’t it the worst? Especially if it is a load of articles of small clothing that dry quickly – in the washer. Ugh! I just want to throw it out and start over at that point. ๐Ÿ˜‰

And *you* just reminded me to buy Borax. ๐Ÿ˜€

Thanks for reading and commenting. I really appreciate it!

  2. I love your meme! Can I pin it?
I’ve never done this specifically, but I do frequently put on a wash and leave the room without closing the lid, coming back hours later to put it in the dryer and realizing it never went at all. But then it’s just me and Adam, no kids yet, so I’m sure once there are kids in the mix I’ll be forgetting the laundry a lot more.

    • Thank you! I am so proud of myself! That’s my real honest-to-goodness washer, washing the real honest-to-goodness, oft forgotten, load of laundry!

You *can* Pin it! Look! Another achievement unlocked just today! Yes! Please do! That would make me so happy. Yay! ๐Ÿ˜€ (Also, do we follow each other there? I am “PeadyPins”.)

I am better about forgetting to close the lid now, but it still happens now and then. So frustrating.

It makes me feel so derpy. ๐Ÿ˜›

I never blame my kids for anything. They’re awesome. Honest to goodness. All they’ve caused me to do is to forget loads of laundry with kid sized clothing! Bwa ha ha! ๐Ÿ˜€

  3. Ha, I do this all the time. I have learned to keep a box of baking soda in laundry room for when that happens, that load will smell fresher just by sprinking a bit in when I rewash it. Join the club, YOU are human.

    • I feel comforted in the fact that lots of people do! ๐Ÿ˜‰

I buy Baking Soda in BULK! (A jar for the kitchen. A large Ziplock in the laundry room.)

I need a Borax backup. Yes. It’s come to this. ๐Ÿ˜›

Human? Me?! Oh, whew! I have so many nice humans in my club!

    • Oh Sarah! I love you the most right now. ๐Ÿ˜€

      That’s perfect.

Ask me how many times it’s happened since publishing this post. Go ahead. I dare ya! ๐Ÿ˜‰

      Besos,
      Laureen
