25 Things I Have Been Busy Doing That Have Prevented Me From Blogging

The B word.

No. Not that one. The other one. The really, really, really, horrible one.

Yeah. That one. You guessed it.

BUSY!!

None of us can escape it these days it seems and so I thought maybe instead of apologizing for it or for not blogging consistently I would swing by and post something off the cuff with zero apologies for people who don’t understand and with the confidence that most of you are in the same boat and will absolutely be able to relate.

Also, because we are all very busy, I have decided that a numbered list is the most efficient way to share what it is I want to say. A list is so much easier to digest, right? (I mean BuzzFeed is practically 100%  made up of listicles and BuzzFeed would never steer us wrong.)

So without further ado, I give you ~

25 Things I Have Been Busy Doing That Have Prevented Me From Blogging

(I may need to work on the name of the list. Meh. I’ll worry about that later.)

  1. Being consumed by the news of the world.
  2. Worrying about blogging.
  3. Worrying about not blogging.
  4. Eating too many carbs.
  5. Worrying about eating too many carbs.
  6. Missing lunch dates with dear friends.
  7. Worrying about missing lunch dates with dear friends.
  8. Missing coffee dates with some of my favourite people.
  9. Trying to find time to organize coffee dates with some of my favourite people.
  10. Worrying about never having coffee dates with some of my favourite people ever again.
  11. Trying to build a business.
  12. Worrying about building a business.
  13. Wondering who the heck I think I am that I can build a business.
  14. Worrying about why I don’t think I have what it takes to build a business. I do. Shut up brain!
  15. Working online all the time. All. The. Time.
  16. Worrying about working online so much.
  17. Not exercising.
  18. Not eating well.
  19. Forgetting to take my iron.
  20. Worrying about why my iron is low.
  21. Being tired.
  22. See number 19. Derp.
  23. Over promising and under delivering.
  24. Worrying about letting *everybody* down *all* the time.
  25. Flipping rapidly back and forth between ALL THE FOMO and considering hermitage as a valid lifestyle.

I have limited my list to 25 things because I know you’re busy, too. Who has time to read 26 things?!? Slackers! That’s who! (I’m considerate like that.) This list could easily have 100 things.

I have one husband and two children. A lot of my busy is for them and/or because of them. I know I’m not the only one delivering the occasional lunch to school, but waiting for nearly 30 minutes for a kid to come and fetch it might be a uniquely me experience. (This week. Grr. I was so annoyed. Totally learned a new thing, though. Apparently, High School lets out at 12:30 for lunch. Mmhm. It’s nearly the end of November, you’d think maybe someone might have mentioned that by now, but you’d be wrong.)

Anyhoo …

Life, right?

So, before I can think myself out of hitting publish I’m going to hit publish.

How has your Fall been? Are you also suffering from the B word?

How are you handling the news of the world?

Do you have a surefire remedy for wanting/not wanting simultaneously to do ALL the things?

Feel free to mull those questions over (and to post answers in the comment section!) while enjoying one of my favourite busy day mindworms.

On The Double!

Okay, okay. I know. I know.

I promised a post every day all month, but you know what? I simply couldn’t deliver one every single day, in order, on the actual day. The actual days were jam packed with events, meetings, planning sessions, absolutely-have-to-be-present school related stuff, a fun dinner date on a Saturday night to meet new people and reconnect with special friends, a narrowly avoided parenting sit’i’ation, an awesome launch of an awesome national program, drop-offs, pickups, and mix-ups, musical instrument acquiring, a whole heck of a lot of form filling, and I even managed to somehow squeeze in a lot of extra hugs, get two gigantic yellow Fall Mums,  and have a coffee date with some of my peeps and a couple of tweeps who are now included in my #tweepstopeeps people I have met in real life (IRL).

I will however reimburse you with an equal number of posts by month’s end because, as I have said before, you just don’t show up with a problem. When you are able to do so, you show up with a solution (or two), too!

Welcome to my solution!

My last post was Friday, September 18. It was a photo post because by then the pressure of September was already starting to squeeze me like a Boa Constrictor. Oh well. At least I know better than to stress myself out over a blog post – for Tempered With Kindness.

Oh, I totally stress out over blog posts for other people’s blogs – like, 13 revisions and a near panic attack over photographs stress out, followed by a sanity-stealing screen shot scenario that really was quite the comedy of errors (that I am still not quite sure has worked itself out – whoopsiedoodle!). Thank goodness no one is here at my desk with me as I am giving a colourful language peppered, colour commentary on just exactly why computers are the ruination of all good things in the world.

Ha ha! Hee hee! No worries. All in good fun! I feel much better now.

You have to go through it to get through it and all that jazz …

Anyway, here I am. I am going to post this and then I will somehow post another. I am not sure the second one will be posted tonight, but by the end of September I will be all caught up. I will! I know I can do it.

I hope your September is going well!

Let’s catch up soon!

How has your month been going?

Are you Crazy-Busy?

How are you handling it all?

*Never Google images of the phrase “double header”. You’re just going to have to trust me on this point. Scarred for life, I am!

**Does every single blog post really require an image? Really?!

T.H.U.R.S.D.A.Y. ( Thankfully, Here. Up. Ready. Start Day. Awesome! Yay!)

This is day four of a week long challenge to myself to write and post something every single day for a week*. So far, so good!

Following through. Hmm! I think I am onto something here, people!

Yesterday I vowed to sit less and today I sat less. Yay, me!

I thought a surefire way to sit less was to also vow to get on a treadmill and walk a good walk.

I haven’t been exercising regularly at all, all summer, except for the usual summer stuff like playing at the park and swimming and does it ever show. Not just in the way I look (ugh!), but also in the way I feel. I haven’t been very energetic and that doesn’t feel very good.

I am usually a pretty perky Peady. Positive (borderline Pollyanna**) outlook. Cheerful. Happy. Even keeled.

What I notice most about skipping the daily walk or Zumba or Yoga, even, is that I have had that yucky, anxious, feeling a lot more. Not good.

It certainly didn’t help that summer started off with some pretty sad news and that the world went crazy all summer. However, there’s no denying the science that tells me if I move more everything will be better. So, since I am a fan of science, I have decided that the time has come for me to jump back in with both feet (even if they are being especially stOOpid these days) and make myself feel better.

Being a control freak, I enjoy the idea that I am in charge, here. So, I am just going to go with that for now.

About that jumping in with both feet… I may or may not have signed up for a thing*** at a place with the stuff.

Maybe. Who’s to say? It’s a mystery, really.

I tied my sneakers (the hardest part of working out.. or so I have heard) and grabbed my water and hit the treadmill. The plan was to walk 20 minutes. No pressure. Just do it.

Well, I felt better than I expected and so I kept speeding up the ‘mill. That’s good because then, of course, I can go further in a shorter period of time and ultimately it will not be getting dark by the time I finish the thing at the place with the stuff. *thumbs up*

The 20 minute mark came and went (W00t!) and I kept going.

Then all of a sudden, just past the 25 minute mark the treadmill stopped. OUCH! What the heck?!?

It could have been really bad. It wasn’t. Thank goodness.

If cameras had been running you could be reading the blog of the next YouTube sensation. Mishaps like this one are the fodder of viral videos!

I am just happy that I am not hurt. I can’t figure out why the silly treadmill stopped, but I took my surviving this ridiculousness as a sign that maybe it was time to stop for today.

Thanks Universe!

I’ll be back!

*Is a week 7 days or 5? Is this a week week or a work week? I don’t get paid, so is this even work? Oh! So many questions! Tell you what. You tell me if this week is 5 days or 7 days and I will oblige. Yes. This is a limited time offer for you to be the boss of me. Don’t get used to it. Control freak, remember? It may never happen again. Go ahead and leave a comment. I’ll follow through. We both know I can!

**Lies! All lies! I am so far past the borderline I have started my own Pollyanna Parliament!

***A 5k run/walk (WALK!). Crazy? Oh, yes. Yes, I am!

W.E.D.N.E.S.D.A.Y. (Whee! Exciting Daily News! Every Single Day A Yarn.)

You didn’t think I could do it, did you?

Well, I did.

So, nyah!

Oops! Sorry. No no. Not you. I know you knew I could. Just a little internal dialogue – with myself.* Whoopsiedoodle!

It’s getting late, though, so a speedy post must be posted post haste!

I have swollen feet and it is really annoying. I need to stop sitting so much. I never used to sit! I used to use a laptop and when I did I stood all the live long day.

Weird, right? I mean when someone says, “laptop”, you think, “lap”, and you need to sit to have a lap, so what the heck do I mean I stood? This makes no sense!  What gives?!?

Well, my laptop was a hand me down and lived a long and happy life, but had been dying for a couple of years. My live-in IT department kept it going, despite it’s age, for years beyond when other people would have sent it to the big Motherboard in the sky. He even managed to bring it back from the dead a few times. It was pretty cool! On more than one occasion I was all, “It’s ALIVE! It’s ALIVE!“.

The last time, though… well, we had a long talk and a DNR order was signed. It was time to let nature take its course and let my poor little MacBook go. It would, in a perfect world, be reunited with it’s Daddy and rest peacefully after a long happy life of working hard (tweeting and such).

So, since my laptop died I have been using a desktop and (while I am thankful to have a computer to use) that is not good!

I mean, it’s good, but it’s bad, you know?

Hrrmmm.

How can I make this clear?

OH! I know! Look! Look at number 10, specifically. See? Lisa would not lead me ashtray .. er .. astray.

I have to quit!

So, at the risk of freaking out like last time, I really have to start moving more and get my butt in gear!

And that’s my Wednesday takeaway in a nutshell**.

*Well who else would I be talking to, internally? My liver? My stomach? Actually, that second one is a pretty likely scenario, but I digress …

**And I do mean NUTshell. Oy!

M.O.N.D.A.Y. (Maybe Owl Never Develop A Yen)

It’s been over three weeks since I posted anything here.

Maybe no one else noticed, but it has been causing me some pretty gross anxiety and so I thought maybe if I make a pact with myself* to post something new every single day this week I can unblock the writer’s block that is plaguing me, of late.

I have lots to say. It’s the getting it out that has become an issue.

Here is a brief list of things I’d like to share with you.

  1. End of summer teeny road trip wrap-ups.
  2. Lost and found mysteries.
  3. Fun photos from around the Maritimes.
  4. Super Moon shenanigans.
  5. Cool local events coming up.
  6. Hot yoga perspectives.
  7. Back to school Thing news.
  8. Yummy recipe roundups.
  9. Return to Zumba high jinks.
  10. Guest blog post possibilities.**
  11. Friday Family Fun Night additions.
  12. Exciting movie news for families.
  13. After school special snacks.
  14. Happy-making organizing hacks.
  15. Meal planning mania.

So, what do you think? It’s worth a shot, no?

I am going to give it the old college try.***

*I’d try making a pact with the Devil, but Beelzebub often disguises himself as potato chips and well, we all know how that would end.

**I can’t make this stuff up. When I went to verify that, yes, in fact I *was* using the word “yen” correctly, (See? See how awful anxiety can be? Second guessing all the things that are typically old hat? Oh yeah! That’s a laugh and a half. NOT!), this is the definition that came up in my Apple “Dictionary”:

yen 2 |yeninformal noun [ in sing. ] a longing or yearning: [ with infinitive ] :  she always had a yen to be a writer. <– Really?!? Even my Mac Mini Mocks me. Ugh.

***Then I am going to change into my poodle skirt, sweater, scarf combo and celebrate with a malted at the soda shoppe! Gee whiz!

Me! Me! Me! Meeeee!

Why do I agree to these things? I say I’ll do a thing because I want to do the thing. I am capable of doing the thing. I will maybe even be halfway decent at doing the thing. Maybe, just maybe, someone will even enjoy the thing. The thing will be good for me. It will allow me to flex a new muscle. It will show *me* I can do the thing. I swear I’m going to do the thing!

BUT!

Then I have to actually do the thing and that is not easy. In fact, it is difficult.

Capital “Things“?

I have them all figured out. Things are easy. They are mine. They are delightful. Happy. Smart. Positive. Fun. Energetic. Adventurous. Kind. I’m happy to spend all my time and energy on my Things. I am fully invested in Things.

It’s those darned lower case “things” that get me all tongue tied and twisted* into knots. Why is it so hard?

I’ll just wait here while you all do the research and get back to me with a definitive answer to my question. *twiddles thumbs* *looks skyward to day dream*

Hmm? What’s that? You don’t know the answer!?! Oh darn. I was really hoping you would because I am totally clueless. Baffled in Bedford. Yup. That’s me.

Except, well, you see, the thing** is, I really do want to give these things a go. So, I have to muster up the courage and take the next step. I’ll try to keep my whining to a relatively inaudible whimper. I promise.

I have to write a bio. A biography. It’s really more of an “autobio” since I am writing it myself, though, isn’t it? I mean isn’t that one of the first things you learn when you start reading about famous people or historical figures? Biographies are books written by other people about a person and Autobiographies are written by the person who is the subject of the book, right? Why then is “bio” the go to term on the internet. Alex is right. The internet *is* crazy, yo! (But I digress …)

Anyhoo!

Essentially, I have to write an “All About Me” blurb for another blogger, Candace from Life in Pleasantville, who is awesome and talented and sweet and kind (and, and, and!!), who has gathered some other really talented writers to write some blog posts over the summer AND (yeah, I just typed that again!) I am feeling very – I’ve got to be honest – intimidated and thinking that maybe she has me confused with another Peady.. or accidentally asked me.. or maybe, just maybe she had had one too many Margaritas that fateful night. (Don’t get me wrong. I’m not judging! I would love a few too many Margaritas. Right now. Maybe then I could unclench enough to write this silly “bio”. Autobio! Whatever!!) (GAH!)

She assures me this is not the case. I am still giving her a faraway *side eye*, but that’s just because I am a healthy skeptic.

Hey! That was something about me! Maybe I can do this!

***For those who are following me on Twitter, I ate the pecan butter tart, like, an hour and forty-seven minutes ago, so I guess I better hit “publish” soon.
