Every time I hear it I get happy. It’s a perfectly catchy pop song with just the right amount of sass. LOVE!
The video is pretty interesting, too. Check out all the ridiculous world records Paramore broke while filming it. Isn’t that hilarious? There’s bonus footage of each record being broken. You have to see it to believe it. Silly! (And you know I love me some silly!)
I am also sharing this right this minute because I am thinking about my friend Sarah (HI SARAH!) who is diving into the (so-called) real world today. GO, mamma! Go!
You got this!
I hope this makes you smile. Then I hope it goes into regular rotation on your Happy Music playlist because it totally is happy music. Right?
I think so!
Do you have a Happy Music playlist?
I definitely have a running list of songs that will always make me smile, giggle, then laugh, burst out into song, and whip up a kitchen dance party like nobody’s business.
Maybe it’s time to add a new tab up there labeled “Happy Music”. What do you think? (Fully aware that music posts don’t bring a lot of traffic. Don’t care. I care to share because I care. If one person is inspired to dance in the kitchen, then yay!)
Come on, come on, turn the radio on
It’s Friday night and it won’t be long
Gotta do my hair, put my make-up on
It’s Friday night and it won’t be long ’til I
Hit the dancefloor
Hit the dancefloor
I got all I need
No I ain’t got cash
I ain’t got cash
But I got you baby
Is that perfect or what?
I cannot get enough of Sia. I have been a fan for quite some time. I didn’t discover her swinging from a chanelie-eer.. from a chandelie-eeeeer … either.
The first time I heard Sia was when I heard this song.
That was a long time ago. Thing 2 was about 2. Itty bitty compared to now. I loved Sia’s voice instantly and then I saw the video and was in awe. A true artist in every sense of the word. That is what I felt I was seeing and hearing.
The word artist gets tossed around rather haphazardly these days, I think. Much like the words sexy and basically, it is overused. But I digress.
My point is Sia is amazing and I have been enjoying her music for years, but now my kids are totally loving her, too, and that makes me extra happy. Yay!
So, without further ado, I give you the video for the song we are loving and listening to lots lately. The song is fabulous and fun and the video is highly enjoyable. If you decide to play it, please actually sit (or stand, but definitely stay!) long enough to watch until the end. It’s worth your time. I promise. I’ve watched it at least three times while writing this (short) post, so you can imagine how many times I have watched it since it was released.
The song is in pretty heavy radio rotation ’round here, too, and we have yet to switch stations to avoid it. A sure sign of a terrific tune! Thing 2 knows all the words and has been heard singing in the backseat of the car during road trips, during breakfast on a daily basis, and/or bursting out in full voice randomly while alone in her room. Yep. It’s a hit!
She will love the video when I show her.
I love that it is a lyric video. That normally bugs me, but this time it is, again, highly enjoyable. I hope you enjoyed it!
So, what songs have you been singing this summer?
What’s your current mindworm?
Go ahead and share it in the comments. If you know me at all, you know I love music and if you share something new to me all the better!
I hope your Friday night has at least a little bit of dancing and maybe even a few cheap thrills.
Source: Sia’s VEVO Channel, a beautiful, artistic rabbit hole, which – and I am sure this surprises exactly zero of my readers – I highly recommend you allow yourself to fall down.
I have been crazy-busy and I haven’t been managing it very well.
However, I am a smart person and one of my strengths is knowing my limits. That is a very good thing. In the spirit of self preservation I allowed myself to not post here. (I was still posting there, and everywhere else, mind you. What am I crazy?!? Of course I was still posting. You should just go ahead and follow me in all the places that way when stuff happens you will know where to find me. You never know when you might need a little dose of silly and I carry it with me wherever I go. Picture a little jar of glitter or cupcake sprinkles. Yeah. Like that! I am armed and ridiculous. So… find me. We have all the ways to connect. Connect, people!)
It’s Friday and I am happy and life is good. I have lots to be grateful for and I am really looking forward to the weekend!
This is my Birthday Week and since Monday was kind of a ridiculous day (notice a theme?) we are having a bit of a do-over before next week begins. The plan is to go out for burgers with the Things and then maybe catch a movie. (Ooh! That reminds me. I have to pick up movie admissions at Costco. That is quite the savings, isn’t it? I love Costco.) I know we’ll have fun! Who wouldn’t have fun with M&Ms in the giant bag of popcorn?
All this to say, all’s well. I’ll write more. I will.
I have plans.
So, without further ado, here are Five* Fun Facts For Friday February Fifth!
Once again, for the third (?!?!) time since starting Tempered With Kindness, I have a new blog host. (This, in part, is why I have been reluctant to publish here.)
I still do not have my 2016 Mom CPU! Oy. Not good. I cannot find one anywhere. Someone suggested ordering one online in January and that seemed silly because how long would it take to arrive, blah, blah, blah… it’s just a simple calendar… I’m sure I’ll be able to pick one up. How hard can it be to find a big magnetic Mother Word calendar for my fridge?! Well who’s the silly one now?! Derp. You all must have the exact calendar I want because there are exactly ZERO in my orbit. harumphs
I have once again resurrected my CD collection and this time I am on a mission to keep them in my space. They need a proper storage solution, mind you, and I am accepting suggestions on this front. Do you have a CD collection? How do you keep them? Are they out of sight, out of mind or welcome in your world?
I was featured in a BuzzFeedNews listicle (Great word, Joe!) and I almost died laughing about it. You can check it out here and in 14-16 months you are welcome to come shopping with me at Halifax’s new IKEA and we can BUY ALL THE FLEUFEGNUUGEN! Deal?
Thanks for reading and sharing and engaging. You are all my favourite!
Have you read any fun facts lately? Have any to share? Feel free to leave a fun fact in the comments. I will respond to every single one with another fun fact. We will all be so smart by the end of these shenanigans!
*Bonus fun fact: I love Frente! (The exclamation point is part of their name. What’s not to love?) Best Bizarre Love Triangle cover ever.
**Extra bonus fun fact: That first fact up there just will not format properly and I want to throw a tantrum. I am going to hit publish instead. Grr! shakes fist in technology’s general direction
We were away for a the weekend and with the exception of one thing I simply couldn’t get done most of the things that needed doing were completed.
We didn’t turn the radio on for the entire drive to New Brunswick.
We arrived in the dark on Friday.
We managed to take advantage of not one, but two BOGO Starbucks Holiday beverages. Oh yes! Today there was a Peppermint Mocha and there may or may not have been a Cranberry Bliss Bar. Who’s to say? It’s a mystery, really.
The Things were thrilled to spend some time with their cousins this afternoon.
We celebrated a special Birthday today!
We were extremely entertained by our nephew and his mad candle lighting skills, but we especially appreciated his Dad stepping in to really get the show started. (Have you ever seen a musical candle that blossoms with fire and sparklers? We have!)
I think our gift was a hit (though who can ever be sure, really?).
We were treated to an amazing feast of Persian food and I really would like to learn to cook all the Persian things right now.
We left for home in the dark tonight.
It was completely and utterly pitch black out. No stars to be seen, yet the cold night air was crisp and seemed to make the visibility better than usual. There was no haze or fog at all. Unheard of!
We made it home in record time because all the traffic seemed to be going with the flow in the same direction as us and there was nary a dingbat on the highway the whole way home.
Thing 1 managed to study for a science test and upload a video to YouTube after we arrived home. (Motivation is a wonderful thing.)
Thing 2 didn’t get to share her violin playing with her Nanny, even though she made a point of bringing both her violin and her music with her all the way to Moncton. (She will just have to book some time in December. Maybe by then she will have a Christmas carol in her repertoire.)
Sometimes bloggers like to talk about music (some of us a bit more than others) and when two people who happen to love the same tune find each other, well, it’s a bloggy goodness match made in heaven!
A while back, Becky – Hi Bitsy! – over at A Little Bit of MomSense began sharing what she called “song obsessions”. Well, I was all over that because it is very happy-making to learn that a person you enjoy in the Twitterverse is really that cool/nice/kind/friendly IRL (or as close to RL as we can get – for now!) Facebook is not quite IRL, but it can be close, especially when people are themselves and not trying to make everything all shiny and perfect. Becky is one of these real people.
Her last song obsession (or two) was different. For once I wasn’t totally in agreement. I loved one and the other, well, the other I felt wasn’t the best offering from Flo and her machine. In fact, I had moved right past “What Kind of Man” (which I found … umm … yell-y) onto “Ship to Wreck” because I feel it is truly Flo at her best.
So I am here to share it … and a few others … with you and Bitsy. I hope everyone enjoys this random, Peak Performance Day, dance party.
Florence + The Machine = Awesome
Said the Whale -live no less!
And here is the recorded version I dance to on the regular at Chez Peady.
Okay, I can’t really explain why I love this one so much, but I love it! It’s so groovy and melancholy and yet boppy all at once. The refrain “don’t think I could forgive you” over and over through a myriad of scenarios makes it a pretty rad “forget you”, don’t you think? Forgive me the ahem full moon in the video, but hey it’s already so odd you might never even get there. Wait. Did I just intrigue you into watching the whole thing? Tee hee hee. Please enjoy Lilly Wood & The Prick and Robin Schulz “Prayer In C”.
This Jimmy Eat World song is very catchy and I really love it. I feel like I have been hearing it for many years and that’s because I have, but it seems to get fairly regular airplay, here in Halifax, on one of my favourite radio stations Radio 96.5 FM and every time I hear it I find a new reason to enjoy it. It’s happy-making. The last time I heard it I decided to dig a bit deeper and when I read more about it’s origin I liked it even more. Here’s “The Middle”.
And for awesome, if not obvious, reasons I leave you with this bonus tune from the Foo Fighters, who clearly are amazing human beings as well as musicians.
So there you have it. These are the mind worms that have invaded my brain of late.
I hope you enjoy them.
What songs are on a permanent loop in your brain or on your playlist lately?
Go ahead and share with me in the comments. You can even add a link to your favourites!
Do you remember the scene from “In and Out” where Kevin Kline’s character, Howard Brackett, is trying to not dance?
When you watched it were you all, pfft “Challenge accepted. No problem. Look. Here I am not dancing.” or, like me, were you physically pained by the thought of not movin’ and groovin’ to Gloria Gainer belting out “I Will Survive” to the point where you had to clench your muscles in the theatre seat so as to not jump up and dance for him?
Furthermore were you practically praying that Howard would just dance already?
Be who you are man – it’s okay we all have a thing. Move! Dance! Embrace yourself in all your glory and for heaven’s sake DANCE!
*If you haven’t seen “In & Out”, I think you should.
**This short and silly post has been sitting in my drafts since April and I am setting it free!
