Five Fun Facts For Friday February Fifth

writing mother blogger plan SAHM WAHM

Hi!

How are you?

Missed you!

Love you lots!

What’s new?

I have been crazy-busy and I haven’t been managing it very well.

However, I am a smart person and one of my strengths is knowing my limits. That is a very good thing. In the spirit of self preservation I allowed myself to not post here. (I was still posting there, and everywhere else, mind you. What am I crazy?!? Of course I was still posting. You should just go ahead and follow me in all the places that way when stuff happens you will know where to find me. You never know when you might need a little dose of silly and I carry it with me wherever I go. Picture a little jar of glitter or cupcake sprinkles. Yeah. Like that! I am armed and ridiculous. So… find me. We have all the ways to connect. Connect, people!)

December was when my last post went live.

Suddenly that seems very, very, long ago.

Meh.

In the grand scheme of things it’s not.

Anyhoo!

Here I am. Hi! waves

It’s Friday and I am happy and life is good. I have lots to be grateful for and I am really looking forward to the weekend!

This is my Birthday Week and since Monday was kind of a ridiculous day (notice a theme?) we are having a bit of a do-over before next week begins. The plan is to go out for burgers with the Things and then maybe catch a movie. (Ooh! That reminds me. I have to pick up movie admissions at Costco. That is quite the savings, isn’t it? I love Costco.) I know we’ll have fun! Who wouldn’t have fun with M&Ms in the giant bag of popcorn?

All this to say, all’s well. I’ll write more. I will.

I have plans.

So, without further ado, here are Five* Fun Facts For Friday February Fifth!

  1. Once again, for the third (?!?!) time since starting Tempered With Kindness, I have a new blog host. (This, in part, is why I have been reluctant to publish here.)
  2. It is Black History Month and there is a new Heritage Minute featuring none other than Nova Scotia’s own Viola Desmond. You learned all about her here, remember? Check out the new Heritage Minute here.
  3. I still do not have my 2016 Mom CPU! Oy. Not good. I cannot find one anywhere. Someone suggested ordering one online in January and that seemed silly because how long would it take to arrive, blah, blah, blah… it’s just a simple calendar… I’m sure I’ll be able to pick one up. How hard can it be to find a big magnetic Mother Word calendar for my fridge?! Well who’s the silly one now?! Derp. You all must have the exact calendar I want because there are exactly ZERO in my orbit. harumphs
  4. I have once again resurrected my CD collection and this time I am on a mission to keep them in my space. They need a proper storage solution, mind you, and I am accepting suggestions on this front. Do you have a CD collection? How do you keep them? Are they out of sight, out of mind or welcome in your world?
  5. I was featured in a BuzzFeedNews listicle (Great word, Joe!) and I almost died laughing about it. You can check it out here and in 14-16 months you are welcome to come shopping with me at Halifax’s new IKEA and we can BUY ALL THE FLEUFEGNUUGEN! Deal?

Thanks for reading and sharing and engaging. You are all my favourite!

Happy Friday!

Have you read any fun facts lately? Have any to share? Feel free to leave a fun fact in the comments. I will respond to every single one with another fun fact. We will all be so smart by the end of these shenanigans!

*Bonus fun fact: I love Frente! (The exclamation point is part of their name. What’s not to love?) Best Bizarre Love Triangle cover ever.

**Extra bonus fun fact: That first fact up there just will not format properly and I want to throw a tantrum. I am going to hit publish instead. Grr! shakes fist in technology’s general direction

BB In The Bucket

BB in the Bucket, Advent fun, play

Sometimes I just do stuff, you guys.

True story.

It happens.

I don’t always share the stuff I do.

My kids get most of me, you know?

Oh sure! I share a lot of stuff online – here, there, and everywhere – but I don’t share everything.

I think this is worth sharing for two reasons.

1) It’s easily adaptable and anyone can do it.

2) It’s my way of celebrating what I love, without dissing something I dislike.

Ready?

Okay!

Ta daa!

BB scroll, BB in the Bucket scroll,

BB in the Bucket, day 1, hiding in plain sight, scroll

BB-in-the-Bucket

Thing 2 finding BB, BB in the Bucket, Advent, Christmas Countdown

BB explains it well, Thing 2, reading, BB in the Bucket

BB in the Bucket

It’s December 4th and look who is here!

It’s BB! But wait. What’s this I hear?

She’s wearing a hat with a sparkly ball

There’s a sparkly scarf too, but that is not all!

BB’s so festive, she’s ready to play

So you’ll have to find her everyday.

There’s only one rule, you must not forget it

Don’t skip it or shun it or you might regret it!

When you spot BB you give her a HUG

You squeeze her and keep her as snug as a bug in a rug.

Yes, Christmastime is the Season of Hope

It’s certainly no time to pout and to mope.

Imagine, you finding such a cute thing

and having to wait and just look at the bling.

Yeesh! That would be awful and terribly bad.

I just can’t believe in something so sad.

So people can keep their elf on the shelf

I’d rather have BB, her wonderful self.

Wouldn't you?, BB, BB in the Bucket, Advent,

Wouldn’t you?

So, there you have it!

Rumour has it that BB will have a sparkly red hat with a white glittery pompom this year.

No one knows for sure though.

We’ll just have to wait and see because as I said these things just happen.

How do you celebrate Advent?

Do you have a special ritual?

Do your kids enjoy the countdown to Christmas?

How do you spend the days leading up to the Holidays?

*I cleared this with the Things before posting it here. It’s late in the game, now, but this is something you could do at any time of year just for fun. Make stuff up, guys! It’s rad!

My Current Mindworm {A Semi-Regular Series} : Tear In My Heart (twenty one pilots )

I hear this song every single day on the radio, so yeah, I’d say the songs on the radio are okay.

Here is Tear In My Heart from twenty one pilots (please know how much it pains me to not capitalize the name of the band).

I love this song.

That is all.

The video confuses me, but videos are always confusing.

Always.

If you disagree, I suggest you look up “Saved By Zero” by The Fixx or “Daydream Believer” by The Monkees or pretty much anything early MTV years.

See? Confusing!

Anyhoo!

Yay, music!

*Oh, and I am totally counting this as a post. FYI.

Dancing With The Bloggers

dance-colour

Do you remember the scene from “In and Out” where Kevin Kline’s character, Howard Brackett, is trying to not dance?

When you watched it were you all, pfft “Challenge accepted. No problem. Look. Here I am not dancing.” or, like me, were you physically pained by the thought of not movin’ and groovin’ to Gloria Gainer belting out “I Will Survive” to the point where you had to clench your muscles in the theatre seat so as to not jump up and dance for him?

Furthermore were you practically praying that Howard would just dance already?

Be who you are man – it’s okay we all have a thing. Move! Dance! Embrace yourself in all your glory and for heaven’s sake DANCE!

*If you haven’t seen “In & Out”, I think you should.

**This short and silly post has been sitting in my drafts since April and I am setting it free!

***I hope it made you smile.

****I also hope it made you dance.

Too Much Looking. Not Enough Leaping.

This is an actual road in New Glasgow, PEI. There's a street sign and everything. AACK!

This is an actual road in New Glasgow, PEI. There’s a street sign and everything. AACK!

I have to go for it, right?

I have been tiptoeing around things and you know what? I am not much of a tiptoe-er in any other aspect of my life, so what the heck is my problem when it comes to asking for what I want?

I dunno!

I don’t even care* right now.

All I know is that it’s over.

I’m only popping in here for a minute to tell you this.

I felt you – of all people – should know.

So there you have it!

It’s time to leap.

Why not? Right?

Life has a way of working out, when I do.

I mean, we survived our adventure down the road** pictured above. That was a miracle of sorts. The Things were sufficiently freaked out and in all honesty I wasn’t sure we would make it out alive. Having an active imagination is a wonderful thing – until you turn down a one way, red dirt road, after dark, relying on a GPS (whose prowess thus far – let’s be honest –  has proved to be sketchy at best) when you know darn well that you could have found your own way home. I asked Daddy-O to take a picture because no one would believe it otherwise and well, if we met our untimely doom, there would be, what? Evidence of our blind faith in technology? It was hard to capture what we were actually seeing. It was so dark. There were downed trees or large branches on the road along with deep grooves on either side of the car and a lot of deep puddles. It was as if the road was brand new. Like, we might be following the bulldozer – new. Frankly, it felt like a scene from a cheesy, scary movie. It was fun though! Lots of laughs and shivers and “Whoa!”s coming from inside our teeny car.

Maybe we are a bit more invincible than we thought?

Could be.

I intend to find out.

Oh! And there will be more PEI posts to come.

I think everyone should come to the Maritimes and visit many places (all the times!), but Prince Edward Island has a special place in my heart (that I can’t even really explain), so I will be sharing some serious PEI love this week and maybe, if I am fortunate, even more into this blog’s future.

So, let’s see where this all leads, shall we?

Tell me, are you a looker or a leaper?

How is summer going, so far?

Are you hot or cold?

We are a lot chillier than we should be, I think, but hopefully it will be warmer soon.

*That’s a lie. I always care.

*Mt. Tom Road. FYI. Look it up. Fun! I dare ya!

It’s iCal Day!

Happy iCal Day!

ICal_Icon

Are you aware of this fact? Did you ever notice the calendar is always on a specific date? July 17. Yup. It’s true. Go look. I’ll wait here. * drums fingers on desk *

No. No I don’t know why the little icons for Apple calendar app reads “Jul 17”, but it does and that’s today and that’s reason enough to celebrate, isn’t it?

No. You mean you need more?

Okay. I’ll find out.

Look!

Now you know!

Should we eat cake?

No.

  • shakes head *

No that would be a silly reason to eat cake.

Though, one might argue that any day is is a good day to celebrate a thing with cake, but I digress …

Wait.

ical-cake

Oh! Ho ho! I knew it!

Oh sure! The number is changed to reflect a birthdate or anniversary or something worthy of cake, but that is most definitely an iCal cake!

This person and I could be friends, I bet.

Anyway!

Happy iCal Day! Happy Friday!

I know it is very silly, but I wanted to pop in and say hello and now we have all learned something, so there’s that. What can I say? I’m a giver.

How is your summer going?

Ours is going great!

We seem to have struck a nice balance so far of outings …

I am enjoying the laid back nature of it all and I am managing to blog a bit or contribute a bit to other places.

The Peady #PhotoADay challenge is in full swing and more than halfway over. Have you been seeing the daily posts? I have very kind friends on Instagram and some of the photos are really fun! There’s still time to join in. Come on! The more the merrier!

I really do love summer.

Next week Chez Peady is hitting the road for a little getaway. I’ll try to write a bit from the road when I can.

So, tell me, what have you been up to?

Are you enjoying summer so far?

Do you have any little vacation plans? Or BIG ones?

What’s been your favourite thing so far?

Best Laid Plans

16432224808_68e68f9ddd_o

Hello!

I planned the bajoopees out of last week and you know what? For the most part it really helped me. It also helped my family, though they might not realize it, because you know fairies and elves do most of the things around here. Just like at your place, right? (Ooooohhh! Maaaaagiiiiic.)

It was a crazy-busy week and some events I hadn’t even accounted for popped up then happened and I would absolutely have been flailing had I not put a basic plan in place last Sunday.

I intended to pop in and blog a few times throughout the week, but I simply couldn’t squeeze in any time for myself.

Now, don’t go getting all “but you said” on me. I eeked out some time for myself, of course, because that is essential to health, happiness and – let’s just tell it like it is – sanity. Plus, I put it right into the plan. Which is brilliant, if I do say so myself. (And I do!)

I said I would walk more and I did.

I said I would drink my required amount of water (Every. Single. Day.) and I did.

I said I would go to a new fitness class and I did AND it was awesome!

Here’s proof.

//platform.twitter.com/widgets.js  Here’s more.

//platform.twitter.com/widgets.js
Dinners were planned out and written on my snazzy chalkboard menu*, but were late every single night (except for Monday and Thursday) and some were even swapped out for better (or more convenient) choices on the crazy-busiest nights. The beautiful thing about a meal plan is that what you think might work on a Tuesday might just work better on Wednesday and since you planned and shopped, etc. you can easily adjust to suit your needs in the heat of the moment. Whew!

Frankly, I’m impressed. There was nothing different about last week except for the fact that I really made an effort to plan, to tell you about my plan, and then actually followed my plan.

It works!

So much so, that I did it again.

I have a few things that will carry over week after week and a few new things that need to be done, but the basic plan is in place and I can fill in gaps as the need arises.

I even have my menu for the week. That’s a huge help, plus it saves a lot of money when you shop once with a plan in mind. I highly recommend it.

Now, this week will be different for me in a lot of ways because, as I said, last week was cah-ray-zee-busy and this week has fewer Spring Fairs and Coffee Houses for instance, but it also has a lot more car maintenance. Blech. I mean, really. It’s life, though, right? There’s always going to be something pressing to get done. All the more reason to plan**.

I will make time for the important things (and Things!) like I always do and I have a bit of a new adventure I am embarking on, plus I really want to try and blog every day in June. Is that insane? It might be a little bit insane. I am giving myself until noon tomorrow to decide. I’ll let you know***.

I hope you have all had a great week. Have you?

I also hope the week ahead is a good one for all of us.

Ready?

Let’s go!

*So cheap! We should really talk about this someday soon.

**See how that just keeps coming up?

***Or, you know, you could come back and see for yourself, I suppose.

On The Go

I feel like I have not stopped to take a breath in the last two weeks.

I don’t think I like it.

I mean I am busy and busy can be good, but there is a fine line between busy and crazy-busy.

Busy is having something to do and managing to still get the basics taken care of.

Crazy-Busy on the other hand leaves me feeling like I am always forgetting something, barely meeting commitments, scrambling to take care of pretty basic stuff (Oh hai couch covered in clean laundry! Stop looking at me like that. I’ll get to you. Eventually.), not being as careful as I should be with the care and feeding of myself, skipping exercise (because surely all this running around must be good for something, right? Wrong.) Feeling like I can’t do it all.

It is not balanced.

I want balance.

How the heck do people achieve that? Seriously. I’m asking.

I want to write more and I love having something to do. Honestly. These things make me extremely happy.

I need to take charge of my shedule.

Maybe I should actually construct one, even. Oh ho! Now we’re talking!

I love knowing that something fun is coming up and I love looking forward to family events and fun with my Things.

I have no qualms making sure that they meet their commitments, get sleep, eat well, exercise. (Thing 2 is even taking part in the Drs. NS Youth Run this morning at the Blue Nose Marathon.)

Time to take a step back and make sure I am doing this for myself.

Yesterday, was actually lovely. We had a family day and we haven’t done that in a long, long, time.

That’s the first thing getting entered in my work life balance schedule.

How do you manage it all?

Do you even try?

When is the last time you felt at ease with the way everything was working out in your life?

Do you live a Crazy-Busy life?

Do you secretly love it?

“GIBBYYYY!”

Yup. Noah Munck will probably hear that a lot on this tour.

There are four shows left in Atlantic Canada.

I’ll be writing about our experience after we see the show this weekend in Halifax at the Rebecca Cohn Auditorium.
