Jump For Joy! It’s July! (A Peady Photo A Day Challenge)

Summer is great. We get to take a break from the everyday routine. We’re able to relax a bit more. Maybe we even get to go on a few little adventures. You know what’s really great about summer, though? Taking extra time to tap into the childhood skill of using our imagination more.

Let’s try it, shall we?

Okay, you pretend it’s July 1st and I’ll pretend that this was published then as I had intended.

Ta daa!

PhotoADay_July2015

Yay! We are very good at pretending!

So, there it is. July’s Peady Photo A Day Challenge.

You can jump in anytime. Interpret the prompt that corresponds to each day as you see fit and share a photo on Instagram* or your preferred social media platform, use the hashtag #PeadyPhotoADay, and we can all enjoy the summer through our shared memories. Fun, right?

I think so.

Speaking of July, it is off to a great start. Canada Day (That’s July 1st for my International readers.) was lovely and low key. It rained off and on for much of the morning, so we stayed home instead of heading downtown for the parade. We watched the noontime concert from Parliament Hill on CBC. I made homemade poutine (and hot dogs – because kids!) for lunch and it was perfection. Thing 2 and I painted our nails in the utmost patriotic shades of sparkly red and opalescent flecked white (They look really cute, actually. We even did a top coat and Thing 2 has little maple leaves with a jewel on each leaf on four of her nails. I’ll have to try and snap a photo.) so we would be all set for the fireworks show at 10 pm, but alas, the fog came rolling in and the fireworks were cancelled. So, like any good Canadian-American family we spent the remainder of the evening watching American Ninja Warrior**.

All is not lost though, the fireworks have been rescheduled for July 4th. Isn’t that fun? We will be there wearing our red shirts, skin stickers, and Canada Day headbands. Oh, I love it when a backup plan comes together!

How is your summer going so far?

Wait. Don’t answer that.

Show me!

Here’s to a very joyful July and a spectacular summer!

A Big Salad.

Well, it isn’t 5 a.m., but it also isn’t 11:58 p.m., so I’m calling that a win.

Today I had the most scrumptious Big Salad for lunch.

It was so good I decided to write about it, briefly, here on my blog.

Here is my salad.

Kale deliciousness!

It was so *exactly* what I needed today.

It’s amazing how a day or two of eating well can make you feel so much better than a day or two months of eating not-so-well.

This NaBloPoMo is only one of three 30 day challenges I am taking.

I have committed to posting here everyday.

I have committed to posting a #PeadyPhotoADay on Instagram everyday.

Annnnd….

I have committed to doing something good for my health everyday.

Today, this amazing salad was my “something” and it was a fantastic choice!

Believe it or not that thing of beauty above came out of a package.

True story.

Look!

Sweet Kale

Everything you need for a delightful Big Salad right there in one place. Brilliant!

I’m not a huge fan of packaged stuff, generally speaking, but today I decided that I needed a treat that would make me feel good and this aptly named salad did the trick. I bought the big bag!

I added some roasted turkey for protein, to boot, and it was a perfect addition. There are cranberries in the salad and we all know how well turkey and cranberries go together, right? Yum!

It would be easy to portion* out the salad to use a bit at a time, but I mixed the entire thing up and made salads for later in the week in separate containers with a protein portion in each one.

I’m all set.

But wait!

There’s more!

A bonus classic Seinfeld** clip.

So, how do you feel about Big Salads?

*This would be a wonderful option for filling the “salad jars” that Pinterest goes crazy for all the time.

**Also, apparently, a super-duper bonus Spanish lesson. De nada.

NaBloPoMo. Go ahead and say it! (Your Guess Is As Good As Mine!)

Two posts in one day! Inconceivable!

This is a testament to what good friends and positive peer pressure can do.

As it turns out, I am far from alone in giving this NaBloPoMo the old college try. Apparently, there are a LOT of determined Bloggers who are revving up their keyboards for the month of November.

I am really happy that I found that out because I *might* have chickened out if I was the only one.

Luckily for me, I have a lot of very nice blogger buddies who are participating and because they all are very kind, encouraging people and excellent writers, to boot, I am 100% certain I will follow through, in an attempt to produce a fraction of the bloggy goodness that they share on a regular basis.

I am also fairly certain that I can count on the aforementioned bloggers and friends to provide their ever effective *ahem* butt-kicking services, should I find myself slacking off during this month-long challenge. Amirite? (I’ll just hope for some comments to confirm.)

So… today marked the end of Daylight Savings Time, but it also marked a new beginning* with this NaBloPoMo challenge.

It just goes to show you,  Jobs never makes it dark at 5 PM, without brightening a window.**

Today was also day two of my November #PeadyPhotoADay challenge and the prompt was #FallBack.

Here is my photo, taken at 10:30 pm AST.

There’s alway one, isn’t there?

*Remember? ‘Cause everyone was so nice to pretend the date on my last post was November 1? See? Brand new!

**Sorry. I couldn’t help myself! Did I mention it was DARK at 5 pm?!

November Nonsense: A Peady Photo A Day Challenge

Thirty days hath September,
April, June and November;
February has twenty eight alone
All the rest have thirty-one
Except in Leap Year, that’s the time
When February’s Days are twenty-nine

Are you as shocked as I am that it’s November?

I mean, really!

Just yesterday it was September and we were celebrating the memory of Terry Fox. Remember that? School had just started and we were lamenting summer’s end?

What happened between then and now? (Well, a LOT, actually.)

Why does time continue to elude me?

Meh.

I’ll figure it out someday… maybe… probably not… it’s unlikely, really.

Incidentally, would you mind, terribly, pretending that the date on this post is November 1 and not November 2?  I really did intend to have it posted on the first. Especially since this is a month long challenge. Then again, what’s one day? I mean really? In the grand scheme of things it’s nada … bupkis … nothing.

Best intentions. You know? Road to H-E-double hockey sticks … and all that jazz.

So, without further ado, I give you November’s Peady Photo A Day Challenge. Ta daa!

Follow @PeadyPics on Instagram and hashtag your photos #PeadyPhotoADay

If you have never participated in a Photo a Day challenge here’s all you need to know:

a) Read the prompt each day and take a photo that represents the day’s word.

b) Post the photo to Instagram (or your chosen SM platform) with the #PeadyPhotoADay hashtag. (You can also hashtag the prompt. For example, the prompt for November 1 (that’s today, remember?) is #LazySaturday.

c) That’s it, really. You’re done! Yay!

Simple, right?

Cool.

If you have any questions, feel free to ask in the comments.

I look forward to seeing your photos and I will be sharing my own, as well. You can see them by searching the hashtags or by following @PeadyPics on Instagram.

I have an ulterior motive as well. It’s nothing too sinister, I assure you.

I am hoping to use my photo a day challenge in conjunction with another challenge for the month of November called NaBloPoMo. Mostly, I am just really wanting to focus more on writing and I am committing to post something here everyday. Maybe I will share some of my photos here and write a short post. Maybe I will write about what I had for lunch. Maybe something great will come up. Who knows? It’s a mystery, really.

All I know is that I am feeling determined, I want to write more and between the photo a day and the NaBloPoMo I have enough fuel to keep the fire burning – at least for the month of November!

So…

Do you think I can do it?

I guess we’ll just have to wait … er … *write* and see!

**I “utter” it on the regular, if I’m being honest. True story.

***This post about NaBloPoMo made me laugh out loud.

****Photo A Day challenges are so fun, it’s easy to do more than one. Check out this one and this one, too!
